Colowyo Coal Company L.P.
- Mining & Quarrying
Since 1977, the Colowyo Mine has produced high-quality, low-sulfur coal that is used to generate affordable, reliable electricity for rural communities across the West. Purchased in 2011 by the not-for-profit wholesale power supplier Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association, Colowyo has been recognized several times for its outstanding reclamation efforts and its environmental stewardship. Today Colowyo mines approximately 2 million tons of coal per year, an operation that supports more than 200 jobs and generates $200 million in economic activity for its host communities in northwest Colorado. The Collom Project at Colowyo is currently under construction and is expected to provide several more decades of mining activity.
