Oak Ridge SWA Fence Removal

Back Country Hunters has partnered with Colorado Parks and Wildlife to remove derelict fencing in the Northwest region of Colorado to improve wildlife movement and habitat permeability.

Join us for a weekend of habitat stewardship, wildlife viewing, fishing, and campfire stories at the beautiful Oak Ridge State Wildlife Area near Meeker. We'll be camping next to Lake Avery only a few minutes from the White River, both great for fishing. For those who don't fish there is plenty of hiking, paddling, and wildlife/bird watching to enjoy.

What to Expect: Volunteers will remove fence staples and wire clips using bolt cutters, roll up wire, and remove T-Posts. We will do the bulk of the work during the cooler parts of the day (9:00-12) on both Saturday and Sunday. In the afternoon and evening on Saturday the 27th the day is open for fishing, paddling, hiking, or relaxing at camp followed by dinner and sitting around the campfire with good people. Even if you can’t swing the overnight stay we would love to have the help for the removal on either day. Many hands make light work!

We will be working in the Oak Ridge State Wildlife area outside of Buford. Joining us, will be CPW Area Manager and Biologist Brian Holmes who will give a talk about his work, the current state of the local wildlife populations, and the conservation history of the area. 

BHA will provide lunch & dinner on Saturday as well as breakfast and lunch on Sunday. 

What to bring: Leather gloves, safety glasses, and fence tools (pliers, post puller, etc) if you have them. A water bottle, sunscreen, bug spray, and proper clothing for working outside and removing fence (jeans, boots, long-sleeve shirt).
