About Us
Since 1977, the Colowyo Mine has produced high-quality, low-sulfur coal that is used to generate affordable, reliable electricity for rural communities across the West. Purchased in 2011 by the not-for-profit wholesale power supplier Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association, Colowyo has been recognized several times for its outstanding reclamation efforts and its environmental stewardship. Today Colowyo mines approximately 2 million tons of coal per year, an operation that supports more than 200 jobs and generates $200 million in economic activity for its host communities in northwest Colorado.
